Creativity and Self-Expression

Visual Arts Programs

Students learn to use various mediums to create something new and show their unique interpretations of the world around them.

Creativity, innovation, communication, and focus develop naturally when students have the opportunity to draw, paint, and sculpt.
History and culture is preserved through the art of past and present civilizations. Sundog’s art programs teach students
the appreciation of many types of art and how to create their own lasting expressions.

Budding Artists

Visual art is essential to the development of motor skills, personal expression, and interpreting the world. Students explore various art mediums…painting, ceramics, and beyond, as they craft 2-D and 3-D art and work skillfully with the greatest human tool…their hands!

Young Artisans

By constructing multimedia works of art, older students focus on developing abstract thinking abilities, enhancing problem-solving skills, and expressing individual creative thoughts in ways that can be more expressive than words.

Murals

Working together, students learn to scale designs, mix colors, and master painting techniques to create stunning community murals. From indoor hallways and classroom doors to outdoor buildings, their collaborative artwork transforms ordinary spaces into colorful, vibrant environments.

Recycled Art

Through this STEAM-based visual arts residency, students collect materials from everyday environments and recycle them into original artwork. Plastic bottles, paper bags, magazines, and more are repurposed to teach students the importance and fun of conservation and re-use.

Masters As Mentors

Take a walk through art history as participants are introduced to the world’s most famous painters such as Picasso, Van Gogh, Mondrian, and Matisse, in addition to acclaimed Black, Hispanic, Asian, and Indigenous artists. A professional painter/visual artist leads students in reproducing master techniques and honing painting skills to create their own original works of art.

Portraiture

This allows students to go “face deep” in drawing techniques. They create realistic images of people from influential historical figures to themselves– and understand what makes each of us special.

Altered Books

This program breathes new life into old books ready for recycling, transforming them into 3-D works of art. Through collage, folding, cutting, gluing, beading, and mixed media design, students create new masterpieces reflecting their personal stories and imaginations.
